
Cleveland Orchestra Announces New Programming For Mandel Opera & Humanities Festival
By Afton MarkayThe Cleveland Orchestra announced the addition of new events to the 2025 Jack, Joseph and Morton Mandel Opera & Humanities Festival.
Highlights of the third installment of the Mandel Opera & Humanities Festival include three concert performances of “Jenůfa” with Latonia Moore, Pavol Breslik, Miles Mykkanen, and Nina Stemma cast, and “Vox Humana,” a program of music by Bach, Poulenc, Ustvolskaya, and Strauss performed by Sarah Aristdou and Franz Welser-Möst. “United in Song!” a community choral celebration and “The Women of Chicago’s Black Renaissance” with pianist Michelle Cann are also scheduled.
Newly added music events are “A Symposium on Immigration and Reconciliation” featuring Cleveland Orchestra musicians on May 16, and a concert by the Chucho Valdés Royal Quartet on May 18. The Cuyahoga Community College, Cinematheque at Cleveland Institute of Art, Cleveland Museum of Art, and the Cleveland Council on World Affairs are among new community participants.
Jehuda Reinharz, President & CEO of the Mandel Foundation said in a press release, “This year’s theme of reconciliation invites us to confront our differences and reflect on our histories. By bringing music, storytelling, and conversation together, we hope that the festival will cultivate and deepen the spirit of empathy, renewal, and understanding in our community.”
The Mandel Opera & Humanities Festival runs May 16 to 25 through Cleveland, OH.
