Christian Blex Appointed Malmö Symphony Orchestra’s Principal Guest Conductor

The Malmö Symphony Orchestra has appointed Christian Blex its Principal Guest Conductor.

Blex will will take on the position for the 2026-27 and 2028-29 seasons.

In a statement Blex said, “I’m looking forward to first and foremost some wonderful music-making and risk-taking as well as the orchestra and I challenging ourselves with interesting repertoire and projects”

Erik Mikael Karlsson, CEO and artistic director of Malmö Live Konserthus & Malmö Symphony Orchestra added, “Christian Blex is an incredibly talented young conductor and it was love at first ‘ear-to-ear.’

Blex currently serves as the assistant conductor of the Gustav Mahler Jugendorchester. He is the winner of the 2025 Herbert von Karajan Young Conductors Award at the Salzburg Festival.

He has collaborated with such orchestra as Gewandhausorchester Leipzig, Karajan Academy of the Berliner Philharmoniker, Norwegian Radio Orchestra, Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra, Tiroler Symphonieorchester Innsbruck, Kyiv Symphony Orchestra, Opole Philharmonic, Bergische Symphoniker, Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra, Trondheim Symphony Orchestra, Stavanger Symphony Orchestra, Jena Philharmonie, and Janáček Philharmonie Ostrava.
