Chicago Lyric Opera Orchestra to Present ‘Opera Without Words’ Virtual Concert

By Logan Martell

On September 15, 2020, Chicago lyric Opera will present a virtual concert, titled “Opera Without Words: A Chicago Lyric Opera Orchestra (Virtual) Celebration.”

The concert will be a tribute to the company’s canceled opening night, which had managed to run yearly since CLO’s first performance in 1954. In order to continue bringing music to audiences across the globe, this concert will be streamed for free via the company’s official website.

The program will feature operatic favorites, such as the “Meditation” from Massenet’s “Thais.” The performance was pre-recorded by the orchestra, with each part being done either remotely, or in accordance with local health guidelines.

Special guests include Steve Robinson, Carl Grapentine, Eugenia, Cheng, and Jack Zimmerman.
