Chautauqua Opera Company & Conservatory Reveals 2024 Slate

Chautauqua Opera Company and Conservatory has announced its 2024 season.

The announcement comes with the reveal that John Matsumoto Giampietro will lead the conservatory as interim director following the passing of Marlena Malas in December of 2023.

The season opens with “Love and Longing by the Lake,” a trio of chamber operas, including the world premieres of Kamala Sankaram and Jerre Dye’s “A.E. Reverie” and Rene Orth and Jerre Dye’s “Love, Loss, and the Century Upon Us;” both works were co-commissioned by Chautauqua Opera Company and Opera Memphis. The third piece in the trilogy is “Pepito” by Nicolás Lell Benavides and Marella Martin Koch.

Ned Canty directs and Steven Osgood conducts.

Performance Dates: June 28 – July 21, 2024

The Conservatory will present “Alcina.” John Matsumoto Giampietro directs.

Performance Dates: July 16 & 18, 2024

The company will also present “Hansel and Gretel” in a production by Kenturah Stickann. Steven Osgood conducts.

Performance Dates: July 24, 2024

Also on the schedule is the Conservatory’s presentation of Nino Rota’s “I Due Timidi.” Jen Pitt directs and Timothy Muffitt conducts.
