Metropolitan Opera Announces Cast Change for ‘Un Ballo in Maschera’

The Metropolitan Opera has announced a cast change for its production of Verdi’s “Un Ballo in Maschera.”

The company noted that for the role of Amelia, Angela Meade will replace the originally announced Elena Stikhina.

Meade has performed the role of Amelia at the Verbier Festival.  She is well known for her Verdi interpretations having sung such operas “Ernani,” “Il Trovatore,” “Falstaff,” “I Lombardi,” “Don Carlo,” “Aida,” “I Due Foscari,” “Requiem, “Stiffelio,” and “I Vespri siciliani,” among others.

She is set to join a cast that includes Charles Castronovo, Olesya Petrova, Nina Minasyan. and Quinn Kelsey. Carlo Rizzi conducts the production by David Alden. “Un Ballo in Maschera” opens on Oct. 20 and runs through Nov. 18, 2023.

Stikhina is set to return to the Met in 2024 for productions of “La Forza del Destino” and “La Bohème.”
