Isabel Leonard, Joyce DiDonato & Benjamin Appl Highlight Celebrity Series of Boston’s 2020-21 Season

The Celebrity Series of Boston has announced the schedule of its 82nd season, featuring performances from renowned and emerging artists in a wide variety of genres and venues throughout the city.

For this article we will only highlight the vocal performances:

Instrumentalists

Mezzo-soprano Isabel Leonard will be making her Celebrity Series debut, joining The Romeros for their 60th Anniversary Tour in a program of Manuel de Falla, Joaquin Rodrigo, Heito Villa Lobos, Federico Moreno Torroba, and more.

Performance Date: Jan. 30, 2021.

The Human Voice

Renowned mezzo-soprano Joyce DiDonato will present a unique interpretation of Schubert’s “Die Winterreise,” joined by pianist Brian Wagorn.

Performance Date: Nov. 20, 2020.

Bass-baritone Dashon Burton will make his Celebrity Series debut, joined by pianist Lindsay Garritson. The program will draw from works by John Jacobs Niles, Kurt Weill’s “Four Songs of Walt Whitman,” Paul Bowles’ “Blue Mountain Ballads,” and selections from Moses Hogan’s spiritual works.

Performance Date: Feb. 10, 2021.

Rob Kapilow’s “What Makes It Great?” will present “The Music of Lerner and Lowe” showcasing and discussing songs such as “Almost Like Being in Love” and “I Could Have Danced All Night.”

Performance Date: Feb. 19, 2021.

Baritone Benjamin Appl will make his Boston debut with pianist James Baillieu for a program titled “Nocturne,” featuring works from Schubert, Tchaikovsky, Schumann, Bolcom, Brahms, and Grieg.

Performance Date: April 7, 2021
