Catapult Opera to Throw Launch Party for Release of PENTATONE’s ‘La Ville Morte’ Recording

By David Salazar

Catapult Opera will host a release party on Jan. 14, 2026, for its new album of Nadia Boulanger’s “La Ville Morte” at Cary Hall at The DiMenna Center for Classical Music in New York City.

The event begins at 5:30 p.m. with a reception, followed by a musical program at 6:15 p.m. featuring soprano Melissa Harvey and tenor Joshua Dennis, led by Catapult Opera Founder and Artistic Director Neal Goren, with pianist Jason Wirth.

The world premiere recording, captured live during Catapult Opera and the Greek National Opera’s world premiere production, marks the PENTATONE debut of Harvey as Hébé, mezzo-soprano Laurie Rubin as Anne, Dennis as Léonard, and baritone Jorell Williams as Alexandre, alongside the Talea Ensemble conducted by Goren. The orchestration was newly composed by Joseph Stillwell and Stephan Cwik under the supervision of composer David Conte, a former student of Boulanger.

The recording was released for purchase and streaming on all major platforms on Jan. 9, 2026.

“La Ville Morte,” composed in collaboration with Raoul Pugno to a libretto by Gabriele D’Annunzio, is Boulanger’s only opera. Set among French expatriate archaeologists in the ruins of ancient Mycenae, the work explores themes of obsession, desire, and creativity. The opera was originally scheduled to premiere at the Opéra-Comique in 1914, but the production was canceled due to the outbreak of World War I.
