By David Salazar

The Greek National Opera will present the Greek premiere of Nadia Boulanger’s “La Ville Morte” this January.

The production, which will be presented on the Alternative Stage at the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center in Athens, will be showcased in co-production with Catapult Opera.

The work, which was scheduled to premiere in 1914 in Paris, was never staged due to the outbreak of the first World War. Then it got its first performance in 2005, followed by a 2020 production in Sweden.

For this production, audiences will see Melissa Harvey, Laurie Rubin, Joshua Dennis, and Jorell Williams.

The opera’s score has been supervised by David Conte, a former protege of the Boulanger. Neal Goren conducts the cast and an 11-member instrumental ensemble. Robin Guarino directs.

“La Vill Morte” opens on Jan. 19, 2024, and runs through the 29th for a total of five performances. The Catapult Opera production in NY runs from April 19-21, 2024.
