Cast Change: Sylvia D’Eramo Steps in For Angel Blue in ‘Susannah’ at Houston Grand Opera

Houston Grand Opera (HGO) announced that soprano Sylvia D’Eramo will replace Angel Blue in the title role of Carlisle Floyd’s “Susannah.”

Blue had been set to perform the role but will no longer join the production.

“With great regret, I have had to withdraw from these performances of ‘Susannah.’ I am very sorry not to be taking part in this production, and I look forward to returning to the stage soon,” Blue said, per an official press release.

D’Eramo made her company debut during the 2025 -26 season as Anna Sørensen in “Silent Night.” She will make her role debut as Susannah in Houston and will sing the part again at Theater St. Gallen in Switzerland in winter 2027. She has performed leading roles at the Metropolitan Opera, The Santa Fe Opera, and Dutch National Opera, among other houses.

She joins a cast that includes baritone Rod Gilfry as Reverend Olin Blitch, tenor Bille Bruley as Sam, and tenor Aaron Blake as Little Bat.

Patricia Racette will direct the new staging. James Gaffigan will conduct the HGO Orchestra and Chorus in his first return to the podium as HGO’s Music Director Designate.

“Susannah” runs for five performances at the Wortham Theater Center from Oct. 23 to Nov. 8, 2026.
