
Cast Change: Miles Mykkanen Joins Cast of ‘Silent Night’ at Houston Grand Opera
By Francisco SalazarThe Houston Grand Opera (HGO) has announced a cast change for its production of “Silent Night.”
The company said that tenor Miles Mykkanen will perform the lead role of Nikolaus Sprink, replacing tenor Duke Kim, who has withdrawn from the production due to illness.
Mykkanen will make his HGO debut in this production following his critically acclaimed turn as Sam Clay in “The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay” at the Metropolitan Opera. This season he also makes company and role debuts as Leukippos in Strauss’ “Daphne” at Seattle Opera in January and as Tamino in Barrie Kosky’s production of “The Magic Flute” at LA Opera.
He is set to join a cast that includes Michael McDermott, Sylvia D’Eramo, Ryan McKinny, Iurii Samoilov, Thomas Glass, Edward Nelson, Brandon Cedel, Jack Swanson, Chad Shelton, Geonho Lee, Ziniu Zhao, Sam Dhobhany, and Elizabeth Hanje. Kensho Watanabe conducts the production James Robinson.
“Silent Night” opens on Jan. 23 and runs through Feb. 8, 2026.
