Cast Change: Larissa Diadkova Joins Cast of ‘Eugene Onegin’ at Metropolitan Opera

The Metropolitan opera has announced a second cast change for its production of “Eugene Onegin.”

The company said that mezzo-soprano Larissa Diadkova will sing the role of Filippyevna, replacing Stephanie Blythe, who has withdrawn.

Diadkova made her company debut in 1996 singing Madelon in Giordano’s “Andrea Chénier” and has since performed Azucena in Verdi’s “Il Trovatore,” Amneris in Verdi’s “Aida,” Herodias in Strauss’s “Salome,” Ulrica in Verdi’s “Un Ballo in Maschera,” the Countess in Tchaikovsky’s “The Queen of Spades,” and Filippyevna, among other roles. She has also performed at the Bayerische Staatsoper, Teatro di San Carlo, Gran Teatre del Liceu, Wiener Staatsoper, San Francisco Opera, Teatro Real, and Royal Opera House.

She joins as cast that includes Iurii Samoilov, Asmik Grigorian, Maria Barakova, Stanislas de Barbeyrac, and Alexander Tsymbalyuk. Timur Zangiev conducts the production which opens on April 20 and runs through May 16.
