Cast Change: Jörg Schneider Replaces Andreas Schager in Wiener Staatsoper’s ‘Der Fliegende Holländer’
By Francisco SalazarThe Wiener Staatsoper has announced a cast change for its production of Wagner’s “Der Fliegende Holländer” on April 29, 2026.
The company said that Andreas Schager has canceled his performances as Erik and will be replaced by Jörg Schneider.
In a statement Schager said, “You’ve been fighting dragons all over the world for years and then you’re gently slowed down by a few tiny pollen….Unfortunately, on the advice of my doctor, I have to cancel the next two performances of “Flying Dutchman” at my beloved Vienna State Opera due to a troublesome pollen allergy and a consequent inflammation of the throat, on the recommendation of my doctor. Many thanks to my dear colleague Jörg Schneider, who will take over these ideas. Toi toi to Beteiligten!”
Schneider will join a cast that includes Franz-Josef Selig, Erica Eloff, Stephanie Maitland, Hiroshi Amako, and Tomasz Konieczny. Bertrand de Billy conducts the production by Christine Mielitz.
