The Opéra National de Paris has announced a cast change for its 2027 production of Massent’s “Werther.”

The company said that Michael Spyres has withdrawn from the production and will be replaced French tenor Léo Vermot-Desroches, who will make his company debut.

Vermot-Desroches will sing on Feb. 22 and 25, and then on March 2, 6, 9, and 12 alternating with Benjamin Bernheim, who was originally announced and who will perform on Feb. 11, 14, 17, and 20, 2027.

Vermot-Desroches graduated from his studies at the Conservatoire National Supérieur in Paris with distinction and has performed at the Opéra national de Lorraine in Nancy, Avignon Opera, Marseille Opera, Théâtre des Champs-Élysées, Limoges opera, and the Opéra Comique, among many others.

He is set to join a cast that includes Aigul Akhmetshina, Gordon Bintner, Sandra Hamaoui, Johanna Wallroth, and Laurent Naouri.

The production is directed by Robert Carsen and Nathalie Stutzmann conducts.
