By Francisco Salazar

Opéra de Monte-Carlo has announced a cast change for its production of “Il Trovatore.”

The company said, “We regret to inform you that, due to a family bereavement, Pretty Yende had to travel to South Africa and will be unable to perform the role of Leonora. Under these difficult circumstances, we extend our most sincere thoughts to Pretty Yende and her loved ones.”

The company noted, “We are nevertheless pleased to announce that Alexandra Marcellier, who was initially scheduled to perform on 28 March, will take over all performances.”

Marcellier was recently awarded “Best new Opera Singer” at the 2023 Victoires de la Musique Classique and has already appeared on the stage of the Salle Garnier in “Madama Butterfly,” the title role which she has also successfully portrayed at the Opéra Bastille, in Frankfurt, Marseille and Saint-Étienne.

Marcellier joins a cast that includes Artur Rucinski, Varduhi Abrahamyan, and Piero Pretti. Giacomo Sagripanti conducts the production by Francisco Negrin.
