The Teatro Carlo Felice is set to present Verdi’s “La Traviata.”

The company will showcase the work in a production by Giorgio Gallione with Renato Palumbo conducting.

The opera stars two casts led by Carolina López Moreno and Elena Schirru.

The will be joined by Francesco Meli and Klodjan Kaçani as Alfredo Germont and Roberto Frontali and Leon Kim as Giorgio Germont.

In a statement, Giorgio Gallione said, “It is known that Verdi thought of ‘La Traviata’ as a contemporary opera: a merciless hymn to life set in the present of the time, without frills or symbolism, of a modern, audacious, ardent interiority. With Guido Fiorato, set designer and costume designer, we thought of setting the work in a stylized, anti-realistic, sterile place, where glass and ice dominate, turned into a black and white “wounded”, only sometimes, by the red of blood and life which, however, pulsates. Perhaps Violetta dies already in the prelude and the opera is all a hallucinated visionary and ghostly flashback. We are, even in moments of joy, imprisoned in a sort of perennial moritat where, thanks to Verdi’s music, pain is transfigured in a sublime way.”

The opera opens on Jan. 12 and runs through Jan. 19, 2025.
