Carnegie Hall to Spotlight Czech Music This December

By David Salazar

This December, Carnegie Hall Citywide will present a series of concerts to celebrate Czech music.

For opera fans, the spotlight will shine on three of the six performances in particular.

First up, Lukáš Vasilek leads the Prague Philharmonic Choir in a program featuring traditional folk songs. This showcase will take place at Times Square on Dec. 4, 2024 at 2 p.m. and is free to audience members.

Then comes Janácek’s “Glagolitic Mass” on Dec. 5, 2024 with Kateřina Kněžíková, Lucie Hilscherová, Aleš Briscein, and David Leigh as the vocal soloists. The program also includes a performance of Dvorák’s Piano concerto, featuring Daniil Trifonov. This concert is made possible, in part, by an endowment fund for choral music established by S. Donald Sussman in memory of Judith Arron and Robert Shaw. Semyon Bychkov conducts the Czech Philharmonic.

Finally, Lukáš Vasilek leads the Prague Philharmonic Choir in music by Eben, Janácek, Dvorák, Martinu, and Novák. That concert is set for Dec. 6 and also showcases Kyle van Schoonhoven as the soloist.
