
Brooklyn Art Song Society Announces New Young Artist Program
By David SalazarBrooklyn Art Song Society is set to launch its inaugural Young Artist Program in fall 2026.
The program will encompass a year-long residency in which selected singers and pianists will understudy repertory, attend rehearsals, and perform in outreach concerts, house concerts,a nd masterclasses. Moreover, artists will only be required to spend one concentrated week each month in Brooklyn rather than having to move to the New York burrough full-time.
“I’m extremely excited about this next step for BASS,” said Artistic Director Michael Brofman, per an official press release. “Our goal is to build a legacy of gifted art song performers equipped with real-world skills, all working toward our mission: ensuring that art song endures for future generations.”
The Young Artist Program Advisory Committee will include Brofman, Dominic Armstrong (University of South Carolina), Michael Kelly, Joel Harder (Manhattan School of Music), Kate Maroney (Mannes), Amy Owens (Santa Fe Opera), and Jennifer Zetlan (Mannes).
The inaugural program will run from Oct. 2, 2026 – June 13, 2026.
