Due to High Demand, LA Opera Adds Additional Performance of ‘Akhnaten’

LA Opera has added an additional performance of Philip Glass’s “Akhnaten” to its 2025-26 season due to high ticket demand.

The newly added performance takes place on Saturday, March 21, bringing the total performances in the run to seven. The opera opens on Feb. 28 and runs through March 22, 2026.

Dalia Stasevska conducts Phelim McDermott’s production in her company debut. Countertenor John Holiday leads the cast in the title role, with mezzo-soprano Sun-Ly Pierce as Nefertiti, soprano So Young Park as Queen Tye, and bass Zachary James as Amenhotep III. Tenor Yuntong Han, baritone Hyungjin Son, and bass Vinícius Costa appear as the High Priest of Amon, General Horemhab, and Aye, respectively. The six daughters of Akhnaten are performed by Emily Damasco, Katie Trigg, Abi Levis, Julia Maria Johnson, Erin Alford, and Kristen Choi.

The new March 21 performance kicks off at 7:30 p.m. local time.
