Brandon Jovanovich, Clay Hilley, Nina Stemme, Elisabeth Teige, Iain Paterson Lead ‘Der Ring des Nibelungen’ at Deutsche Oper Berlin

The Deutsche Oper Berlin has announced its upcoming performances of Wagner’s iconic “Der Ring des Nibelungen.”

Wagner’s tetralogy will star number of renowned Wagnerian singers, including Brandon Jovanovich as Siegmund; Elisabeth Teige as Sieglinde; Nina Stemme in the role of Brünnhilde; Clay Hilley as Siegfried; Derek Welton as Wotan in “Das Rheingold”; Iain Paterson as Wotan/Der Wanderer; Markus Brück and Jordan Shanahan as Alberich; Albert Pesendorfer as Hagen; Okka von der Damerau as Waltraute; and Annika Schlicht as Fricka. The rest of the cast includes Joel Allison, Attilio Glaser, Ya-Chung Huang, Thomas Blondelle, Tobias Kehrer, Flurina Stucki, Aile Asszonyi, and Thomas Lehman.

Deutsche Oper’s General Music Director Sir Donald Runnicles will conduct the production by Stefan Herheim.

The opera house has also announced that it will cooperate with the Naxos, Norwegian television NRK channel, MarqueeTV and the Rundfunk Berlin – Brandenburg for an audiovisual presentation of the Ring cycle. “Der Ring des Nibelungen” will be released in Germany in the ARD media library, and internationally on MarqueeTV and Norwegian television in Spring 2022. Additionally, Naxos will release the Ring cycle on a DVD or Blu-ray box in Autumn 2022.

“Der Ring des Nibelungen” will be presented in the three separate cycle installments. The first cycle will take place between Nov. 9 – 14, with the second cycle set to be performed between Nov. 16 – 21, 2021. Finally, the third cycle will take place between Jan. 4 – 9, 2022.
