Bayerische Staatsoper Announces Conductor Change for ‘Don Carlo’
By Francisco SalazarThe Bayerische Staatsoper has announced a conductor change for “Don Carlo.”
According to Slippedisc, the company said, “It is with great regret that the Bavarian State Opera announces that Zubin Mehta will not be able to conduct Don Carlo in May 2025 due to a necessary break. Zubin Mehta himself deeply regrets the cancellation but is already looking forward to his return to the Bavarian State Opera in December of this year. We realize that this news will disappoint our audiences. Fortunately, we have been able to secure a last-minute replacement for the production in Ivan Repušić, Chief Conductor of the Munich Radio Orchestra.”
Repušić has conducted the Münchner Rundfunkorchesters, Oper Leipzig, Staatsoper Hamburg, Semperoper Dresden, Komische Oper Berlin, Staatsoper Unter den Linden, and Opernhaus Zürich, among others.
He will conduct a cast that includes Erwin Schrott, Stephen Costello, George Petean, Dmitry Belosselskiy, Rachel Willis-Sørensen, and Ekaterina Semenchuk.
“Don Carlo” opens on May 4 and runs through May 17, 2025.
