The Bayerische Staatsoper has announced its 2025-26 season.

Premieres

Maurizio Benini conducts Verdi’s “Rigoletto” in a new production by Barbara Wysocka. Bekhzod Davronov, Igor Golovatenko, Ludovic Tézier, Serena Sáenz, Nadine Sierra, Riccardo Fassi, and Elmina Hasan star.

Performance Dates: March 7-24, 2026 & July 28 & 31, 2026

Lotte de Beer directs a new production of Gounod’s “Faust” with Jonathan Tetelman, Piotr Beczała, Kyle Ketelsen, Olga Kulchynska, Ailyn Pérez, Florian Sempey, Boris Pinkhasovich, and Emily Sierra. Nathalie Stutzmann conducts.

Performance Dates: Feb. 8-27, 2026 & July 24 & 30, 2026

Tobias Kratzer directs a new production of Wagner’s “Die Walkure” with Joachim Bäckström, Ain Anger, Nicholas Brownlee, Irene Roberts, Miina-Liisa Värelä, and Ekaterina Gubanova. Vladimir Jurowski conducts.

Performance Dates: June 25-July 8, 2026

Stefano Montanari conducts Handel’s “Alcina” with Johanna Wehner directing. Jeanine De Bique, John Holiday, Avery Amereau, Jessica Niles, Carine Tinney, Julian Prégardien, and Gerrit Illenberger.

Barrie Kosky will direct a new production of Rimsky-Korsakov’s “Die Nacht vor Weihnachten” with Violeta Urmana, Sergei Leiferkus, Dmitry Ulyanov, Elena Tsallagova, Ekaterina Semenchuk, Sergey Skorokhodov, and Milan Siljanov.

Performance Dates: Nov 29-Dec. 22, 2025

Christiane Lutz will direct Hans Werner Henze’s “Die Englische Katze.” Katharina Wincor conducts a cast that includes Michael Butler, Daniel Vening, Iana Aivazian, Dafydd Jones, Samuel Stopford, Bruno Khouri, Elene Gvritishvili, Nontobeko Bhengu, Jess Dandy, Seonwoo Lee, Lucy Altus, Armand Rabot, and Zhe Liu.

Performance Dates: Nov 5, 2025-Jan. 30, 2026

The world premiere of Brett Dean’s opera “Of One Blood” will be held with Claus Guth directing. Vladimir Jurowski conducts the production starring Johanni van Oostrum, Vera-Lotte Boecker, Liam Bonthrone, Michael Butler, and Mahan Esfahani.

Daniele Rustioni conducts Strauss’ “Ariadne auf Naxos” in concert with Michael Nagy, Catriona Morison, David Butt Philip, Caroline Wettergreen, Krassimira Stoyanova, and Thomas Mole.

“Cavalleria Rusticana” and “Pagliacci” will be revived in a production by Francesco Micheli. Antonino Fogliani conducts with Mascagni’s work starring Elīna Garanča, Vittorio Grigolo, Rosalind Plowright, Luca Salsi, and Elmina Hasan, and Leoncavallo’s work starring Ailyn Pérez, Yonghoon Lee, Luca Salsi, Andrés Agudelo, Thomas Mole, and Christian Rieger.

Henrik Nánási conducts Verdi’s “La Traviata” with Lisette Oropesa, Granit Musliu, and Luca Salsi.

Donizetti’s “La Fille du Regiment” will be revived with Pretty Yende, Dorothea Röschmann, Sunnyi Melles, Xabier Anduaga, and Misha Kiria. Antonino Fogliani conducts.

Humperdinck’s “Hansel und Gretel” will be conducted by Vladimir Jurowski and will star Thomas Mole, Juliane Banse, Rachael Wilson, Emily Sierra, Nikola Hillebrand, Erika Baikoff, Ya-Chung Huang, Kevin Conners, and Meg Brilleslyper.

Nicola Luisotti conducts Puccini’s “La Boheme” with Sonya Yoncheva, Aida Garifullina, Benjamin Bernheim, Stephen Costello, Andrzej Filończyk, German Olvera, and Roberto Tagliavini.

In time for the holiday season Mozart’s “Die Zauberflote” will star Christof Fischesser, Bogdan Volkov, Martin Snell, Jessica Pratt, Erika Baikoff, Vitor Bispo, Elene Gvritishvili, and Kevin Conners. Christopher Moulds conducts.
