Baritone James Atkinson Wins Royal Over-Seas League 2022 Solo Singer Prize

The Royal Over-Seas League has announced baritone James Atkinson as ROSL’s 2022 Solo Singer Prize, securing the second section win in the ROSL Annual Music Competition.

Atkinson’s winning performance included Lieder, art song, and opera by Finzi, Faure, Schubert, and Bellini.

The baritone bested three other singers in the final, taking home the £5,000 prize and securing the second of four spots to compete for the Gold Medal and an additional £15,000.

Atkinson is a graduate of the Royal College of Music Opera Studio and has won several awards and competitions, including Maureen Lehane Vocal Awards, the Somerset Song Prize, and the Mozart Competition. He will make his Welsh National Opera debut in Spring 2022 as Masetto in “Don Giovanni.”

Adjudicating the final round were Gillian Keith, Geoff Parkin, Nicky Spence, and Sue Spence.
