Bampton Classical Opera To Present ‘Bride & Gloom’

The Bampton Classical Opera is presenting Stephen Storace’s “Bride & Gloom” throughout the summer.

The company will showcase the work at the Deanery Garden in Bampton, Oxfordshire on July 19 and 20 followed by an August 26 presentation at the Orangery Theatre in Westonbirt School, Glos. The run will conclude on Sept. 17, 2019 at the St. John’s Smith Square in London.

The opera will feature an English translation of Gaetano Brunati’s libretto by Brian Trowell. Jeremy Gray will direct the opera while conductor Anthony Kraus will lead the Orchestra of Bampton Classical Opera.

The cast will include soprano Jenny Stafford , soprano Caroline Kennedy, soprano Aoife O’Sullivan, tenor Gavan Ring, tenor Adam Tunnicliffe, baritone Arthur Bruce, and baritone Robert Davies.

The opera, known as “Gli sposi malcontenti” in its original version, was never performed in England during the 18th and 19th century.
