
Tomasz Konieczny, Stanislas de Barbeyrac, Regine Hangler, Rene Pape, Jerzy Butryn, Monica Radecka Headline Baltic Opera Festival’s 2026 Season

The opera that will be performed this season is Wagner’s “Die Walküre.” Artistic Director Tomasz Konieczny will sing the role of Wotan making his first appearance with the festival. Joining him are Stanislas de Barbeyrac as Siegmund, Izabela Matuła as Sieglinde, Regine Hangler as Brünnhilde, René Pape as Hunding, and Małgorzata Walewska as Fricka, with the eight Valkyries sung by Katarzyna Wietrzny, Natalia Rubiś, Magdalena Pluta, Joanna Motulewicz, Annika Egert, Iwona Wall, Anna Bernacka, and Barbara Bagińska.
The production is directed by John Fulljames, with revival direction by Johanne Holten, set and costume design by Tom Scutt based on his original designs for The Royal Danish Theatre, and lighting design by D.M. Wood. Axel Kober serves as music director and conductor. The Baltic Opera Orchestra in Gdańsk performs in cooperation with the Symphony Orchestra of the Lviv National Philharmonic named after Myroslav Skoryk.

The season will also include “Polskie Wesele.” The production features music direction and conducting by Łukasz Borowicz, with direction by Paweł Miśkiewicz and adaptation and dramaturgy by Daria Kubisiak. The cast is led by Jerzy Butryn as Baron Mietek Ogiński and Monika Radecka as Jadzia, alongside Grzegorz Szostak, Piotr Buszewski, Marta Wiktorzak, and Hubert Zapiór, with further roles taken by Marcin Grzywaczewski, Sebastian Rutkowski, Jerzy Szlachcic, Marcin Klarman, Kinga Mazurkiewicz-Pala, Katarzyna Toboła, Rafał Romanicz, and Daniel Babuśka. The Chorus, Ballet, and Orchestra of the Wrocław Opera participate, alongside the Andrzej Jagodziński Trio.

Soprano Anett Fritsch closes the Baltic Opera Festival with a recital titled “Madame, I Love You” at the European Solidarity Centre in Gdańsk. The program is built around the poetry of Heinrich Heine, with songs by Robert Schumann, Clara Schumann, Felix Mendelssohn, Fanny Hensel, Johannes Brahms, Richard Strauss, and Tchaikovsky, including Schumann’s cycles Liederkreis, Dichterliebe, and Myrthen. Actor Sven-Eric Bechtolf recites Heine’s poetry between songs. Pianist Florian Krumpöck accompanies.
