Australian Chamber Orchestra Announces New Director of Artistic Planning

By Francisco Salazar

The Australian Chamber Orchestra has announced the appointment of Toby Chadd in the new role of Director of Artistic Planning, joining the ACO’s Executive Leadership Team.

Chadd will assume his new post in May 2021 following a career at ABC. He began as Label Manager at ABC Classic and Jazz in 2014 and became Content Manager in 2018. During his time in the role, he revitalized the live music program by initiating the ABC’s largest composer commissioning project.

In his new post, Chadd will work with Artistic Director Richard Tognetti, Managing Director Richard Evans, and the wider Executive team and Orchestra to design and develop the Orchestra’s artistic program.

In a statement, Toby Chadd said, “From when I first watched the Orchestra in London in the early 2000s, to producing many recording projects together at the ABC, I’ve long been enthralled by the musical alchemy of the ACO. It’s not only the extraordinary quality of the playing, or the roster of collaborators, or the breadth of repertoire – although all are unmatched globally. It’s the uncompromising approach to curating and delivering experiences that challenge and move audiences. I’m thrilled at the prospect of working with Richard, the musicians, and staff to build on the ACO’s legacy, as the Orchestra brings to life a new venue in Sydney as well as international and digital opportunities.”
