Australian Brandenburg Orchestra to Present ‘Choral Splendour’

By David Salazar

The Australian Brandenburg Orchestra will reunite choir and orchestra for “Choral Splendour” from April 10-19, 2026.

The performances represent the organization’s first major choral program since 2022, performing in Sydney and Melbourne this April under the direction of Founder and Artistic Director Paul Dyer.

The program pairs three Bach cantatas and his Double Violin Concerto in D minor with Telemann’s Overture in D major and Händel’s coronation anthems “Zadok the Priest” and “The King shall rejoice.” Baroque violinists Shaun Lee-Chen and Ben Dollman appear as soloists in the Bach concerto.

The Brandenburg Choir brings together professional singers from a range of careers outside music, among them long-serving members Wei Jiang, Paul Tenorio, and Mark Nowicki, alongside newest member James Pinneri and Brandenburg Mentorship alumna Astrid Girdis.

“Bach’s cantatas are an absolute gold mine for choral singing. You could spend a lifetime with them and still be surprised by what you uncover. It’s been far too long since we’ve had choir and orchestra together in full voice, and there is nothing quite like that sound,” Paul Dyer said of the program, per an official press release.

“Choral Splendour” runs April 10–15 at City Recital Hall, Sydney, and April 16–19 at Elisabeth Murdoch Hall, Melbourne Recital Centre.
