Opera Lafayette is set to launch “Rameau 350,” a multiyear rediscovery project devoted to the operas of Jean Philippe Rameau.

The project will commence in November 2026 and runs through the composer’s 350th birth anniversary in 2033.

The project opens with the modern world premiere of the original 1748 version of “Les Surprises de l’Amour.”

Chas Rader Sheiber directs the fully staged production, with a cast including soprano Kayleigh Sprouse as Amour and Un Plaisir, soprano Elizabeth Sutphen as Uranie and Venus, soprano Emilie Kealiani as Astree and Diane, bass baritone Phillip Lopez as Le Temps and Adonis, and baritone Hadleigh Adams as Vulcan and Linus.

Jimmy Stubbs designs costumes and scenery, and Connie Yun designs lighting.

The New York performance of “Les Surprises de l’Amour” will take place at the Kaye Playhouse at Hunter College on Nov. 9, 2026, followed by three performances at the Folger Shakespeare Library in Washington, D.C. on Nov. 13 through 15.
