Aspen Music Festival 2023 to Star Angel Blue, Ana María Martinez, Renée Fleming, Sasha Cooke

Aspen Music Festival & School has announced its 2023 season.
For the purposes of this article, our focus will be solely on vocal performances.
There will be several editions of the “Opera Encounters” throughout the season. The showcase features the Aspen Opera Theater and VocalARTS faculty leading emerging talents in opera scenes, musical theater, and art songs.
Performance Date: July 1, 8, 15, 22, & 29, 2023
Soprano Ana María Martinez will give a recital with pianist Myra Huang.
Performance Date: July 1, 2023
There will be an “Opera House Music” at a private home, also featuring student artists from the Aspen Opera Theater and VocalARTS program.
Performance Date: July 6 & 27, 2023
Nicholas McGegan will lead the Aspen Chamber Symphony in selected orchestral songs by Schubert. The program also features Maxim Vengerov in Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto and Schubert’s sixth symphony.
Performance Date: July 7, 2023
There will be a gala entitled “Opera Benefit 2023: A Cabaret Evening of Romance” featuring student artists from the Aspen Opera Theater and VocalARTS program.

There will be Vocal Arts Showcase featuring young artists from the Aspen Opera Theater and VocalARTS program.
Performance Date: July 13 & 27, 2023
Renée Fleming will join forces with Yannick Nézet-Séguin for highlights from their Grammy winning album “Voice of Nature: the Anthropocene.”
Performance Date: July 15, 2023
Patrick Summers will conduct Jimmy López Bellido’s “Bel Canto.” Kevin Newbury directs.
Performance Date: July 21, 2023
Renée Fleming will headline a concert featuring music by Garner, Haffe, Moe, Wagner, Sarah Kirkland Snider, and Carter. She is joined by the Aspen Contemporary Ensemble and conductor Timothy Weiss.
Performance Date: July 22, 2023
Sasha Cooke and Rodrick Dixon headline Mahler’s “Das Lied von der Erde” under James Conlon, who also leads Lise de la Salle in Mendelssohn’s second piano concerto.
Performance Date: July 23, 2023
Angel Blue and Myra Huang will perform a recital with works by Hoiby, Strauss, Arlen, Gershwin, and Spirituals. Blue will also give a masterclass the following day.
Performance Date: July 24, 2023
James Conlon will lead a performance of Zemlinsky’s “Maiblumen blühten überall” as well as music by Schulhoff and Schoenberg.
Performance Date: July 26, 2023
Mezzo-soprano Kelley O’Connor headlines Mahler’s Symphony No. 3 in D minor, conducted by Robert Spano.
Performance Date: July 30, 2023
