Artist Relief Tree Enters Phase 2 of Fundraiser

By David Salazar

The Artist Relief Tree has announced that it is moving into phase two of its fundraising efforts to reach over $1,000,000.

The organizers behind the effort recently announced that the fundraiser, which aims to pay each artist of any discipline $250 during the COVID-19 crisis, has already managed to raise over $200,000.

Leading the effort is Amanda Palmer, who is joined by a strong coalition of artists and leaders including such opera stars as Isabel Leonard, Freddie Ballentine, Ryan McKinny, and John Holiday. Other artists backing the fundraiser include Mike Posner, Regina Spektor, Rhiannon Giddens, Missy Higgins, Brian Eno, Ben Folds, Ani DiFranco, George R.R. Martin, Neil Gaiman, Brené Brown, Ijeoma Oluo, Maria Popova (founder of BrainPickings.org), Russell Brand, and Sir Lenny Henry.

“So many artists – even well-known and loved ones – live hand-to-mouth and have absolutely no financial safety nets, no insurance, no lifeline,” said Palmer in a press release. “We have to be that lifeline. Anyone right now who is in a position to help, must. Don’t forget what a world without art would be like: we can’t eat it, but it feeds us. Reach deep and give generously, please. And artists in need: please apply. We’re here to help; we got you.”
