Artist Of The Week: Louise Alder

Cardiff Singer Of The World Winner To Make Teatro Real Debut

By Francisco Salazar

Ever since winning the audience prize at the Carfdiff Singer of the World competition in 2017, Louise Alder has become one of the most sought-after sopranos on the international stage. She has made noticable debuts in Europe and has added a number of new roles to her repertoire. Moreover, she has also been celebrated for her baroque roles and interpretations.

This week, she will add another role to her repertoire and another major theater to her resume.

Alder will make her Teatro Real debut in the rarely performed work “La Calisto” by Cavalli. Known as one of the most essential works in the baroque repertoire, “La Calisto” will make its Teatro Real debut in a production by the Bayerische Staatsoper. Alder, who has performed music from such baroque composers as Handel, Bach, and Purcell has been praised for her singing as “tasteful and nuanced” as well as “stylish” and “captivating.” As she continues to grow as an artist, there is no doubt that Alder is slated to make an impression on Madrid audiences in the work.

For those not in Madrid to see her, Alder will join the “Semele” tour in April and is also slated to sing “Partenope” at the San Francisco Opera. She will also sing in “The Medium” at Oper Frankfurt and sing a number of concerts which include the Four Last Songs by Strauss and Handel’s The Messiah.

Recordings

For those not familiar with Alder’s voice, she recently released her first solo album entitled “Through Life and Love” featuring Strauss Lieder. She is also on recordings of “The Rape of Lucretia” from the Glyndebourne Festival, Lehar’s “Der Graf von Luxemburg,” and Cesti’s “L’Orontea” from Oper Frankfurt.
