
Artist of the Week: Julia Deit-Ferrand
Mezzo-Soprano Brings Miss Julie to Operafest Lisboa

On Sept. 5 and 6, Operfest Lisboa will present the national premiere of the chamber opera “Julie” by Philippe de Boesmans. The opera is based on the August Strindberg play “Miss Julie” and is celebrating its 20th anniversary. This week Lisboa will present it featuring a cast of rising stars including Julia Deit-Ferrand, a rising star in the opera world.
The mezzo-soprano will make her role debut in the role that has been adapted in film and opera over many years and interpreted by some of the greatest actors in history.
Deit-Ferrand is known for her diverse repertoire and has performed at some of the top houses including Opéra Royal de Walling, Opéra du Rhin, Opéra d’Avignon, Opéra de Lausanne, Theater Orchester Biel Solothurn, Opéra de Magdeburg, and Grand Théâtre de Genève. Her repertoire includes such works as Massenet’s “Cendrillon,” Mozart’s “the Magic Flute,” Rossini’s “Il Barbiere di Siviglia,” Mozart.,s “le Nozze di Figaro,” and the new work “Don Giovanni’s Inferno.” She has also performed in musicals likes “Les Miserables,” and “Cabaret.”
Critics have raved about her voice noting it has “beautiful roundness and homogeneity in all registers” and a “velvety timbre that colors her singing.”
For those not in Lisboa for the performances, Deit-Ferrand will return to the Opéra National de Lorraine this season.
