This week, The Dallas Opera opens a starry production of Verdi’s epic “Don Carlo.” The production showcases some of the lead interpreters of the opera as well as some house debuts. Among them is that of baritone Étienne Dupuis, who will make his Dallas Opera debut in one of his signature roles.
The baritone first sang the role of Rodrigo in 2015 at the Deutsche Oper Berlin and has since went on to perform it in both Italian and French at the Wiener Staatsoper, Paris Opera, and the Metropolitan Opera.
When he sang it at the Met, he was one of the standouts in the production with OperaWire noting that he gave a “star-making performance” and “shined with his double aria.” Now audiences will get to experience him in the four-act version.
For those not in Dallas, the baritone returns to Paris for the French version of “Lucia di Lammermoor” and for a concert in Lyon.
Recordings
For those interested in exploring Dupuis’ artistry, the baritone has a recording of Massenet’s rarely performed work “Thérèse” and “Il Barbiere di Siviglia” from the Wiener Staatsoper.
