Alexa Anderson, Jasmine Johnson to Headline Modern World Premiere of Ars Minerva’s ‘La Flora’

Ars Minerva will showcase the modern world premiere of “La Flora.”

The premiere of the 1681 work by Antonio Sartorio and Marc’Antonio Ziani is set for Nov. 15-17, 2024 at the ODC Theater in San Francisco. It stars Alexa Anderson in the title role character who is the love interest of Pompey the Great, played by Jasmine Johnson. Wayne Wong is emperor Silla and soprano Aura Veruni is Emilia. Other cast members include Sara Couden, Nina Jones, and Sidney Ragland.

“La Flora shows the intricate dance between power and passion,” said Céline Ricci, Ars Minerva founder and artistic director, in an official press statement. “The role of Flora captures the essence of a woman who maneuvers through a labyrinth of political intrigue and personal betrayal highlighting the complexities between her desires and the tumultuous world around her.”

The opera is conducted by Matthew Dirst. The score was transcribed by Adam Cockerham and Joe McClinton translated the text for supertitles.
