The Arena di Verona is still expecting to open on June 13, 2020.

According to L’Arena, director Cecilia Gasdia stated that the Arena di Verona is still slated to go through with its initial plans and that if that was to happen, it will be “the return of opera on an international level.”

Gasdia however, noted that the organization is still observing how the pandemic develops and information will be much clearer by the end of April when the lockdown in Italy is set to end.

Over the course of the last few weeks, Italy has seen its curve of the COVID-19 spread slowly flatten with less cases and less deaths. The country currently has 128,948 reported cases and 15,887 deaths, as of this publication.

The Arena di Verona is set to open with a new production of “Pagliacci” and “Cavalleria Rusticana” and will also feature galas by Anna Netrebko, Plácido Domingo, and Jonas Kaufmann.
