Arena di Verona Finds Soprano for ‘Carmina Burana’

By Francisco Salazar

The Arena di Verona has announced that Gilda Fiume will sing the soprano role in its presentation of “Carmina Burana” on Sept. 1, 2024.

Fiume will fill in for Jessica Pratt who withdrew earlier this month for personal reasons.

In a statement, the soprano said, It is an honor for me to return to the fantastic setting of the Arena di Verona to debut one of the most fascinating oratorios in the history of music: Carmina Burana.”

Fiume has performed at the Teatro San Calo di Napoli, Teatro Regio di Parma, Wexford Festival, Arena di verona and Teatro Bellini di Catania. Her repertoire includes the music of Donizetti, Mozart, Verdi, and Bellini. She recently performed “La Traviata” at the Cincinnati Opera.

The soprano is set to join a cast that includes Filippo Mineccia and Youngjun Park. Michele Spotti conducts the evening.
