The Staatsoper unter den Linden in Berlin has announced its 2021-22 season.

Here is the full slate.

Operas

Beethoven’s “Fidelio” will open the season. The opera stars Roman Trekel, Matthias Goerne, Pavel Černoch, Andreas Schager, Simone Schneider, Camilla Nylund, Kwangchul Youn, Victoria Randem, and Siyabonga Maqungo. Alexander Soddy conducts the production by Harry Kupfer.

Performance Dates: August 28 – Sept. 19, 2021

Aleksandra Kurzak and Saioa Hernández share the role of Cio-Cio-San in Puccini’s “Madama Butterfly.” Roberto Alagna and Stefan Pop perform Pinkerton, while Alfredo Daza and Lauri Vasar portray Sharpless. The cast will be rounded out by Natalia Skrycka, Anna Kissjudit, Andrés Moreno García, Adam Kutny, Grigory Shkarupa, and Žilvinas Miškinis. Massimo Zanetti conducts the production by Eike Gramss.

Performance Dates: August 29 – Oct. 23, 2021

Verdi’s “Falstaff” features Alfredo Daza, Bogdan Volkov, Andrés Moreno García, Stephan Rügamer, Jan Martiník, Barbara Frittoli, Serena Sáenz, Daniela Barcellona, Katharina Kammerloher, and Michael Volle in the title role. Thomas Guggeis conducts the production by Mario Martone.

Performance Dates: Sept. 5 – 16, 2021

Mozart’s “Le Nozze di Figaro” will spotlight Gerald Finley and Gyula Orendt as Count Almaviva, Federica Lombardi and Elsa Dreisig as Countess Almaviva, Anna Prohaska and Regula Mühlemann as Susanna, and Riccardo Fassi in the title role. The cast also includes Corinna Scheurle, Katharina Kammerloher, Waltraud Meier, Stephan Rügamer, Siegfried Jerusalem, Peter Rose, David Oštrek, and Liubov Medvedeva. Daniel Barenboim conducts the production by Vincent Huguet.

Performance Dates: Sept. 18, 2021 – April 16, 2022

Mozart’s “Così fan tutte” will showcase Federica Lombardi and Elsa Dreisig in the role of Fiordiligi, Marina Viotti as Dorabella, Paolo Fanale in the role of Ferrando, Gyula Orendt as Guglielmo, Lucio Gallo as Don Alfonso, and Barbara Frittoli as Despina. Daniel Barenboim conducts the production by Vincent Huguet.

Performance Dates: Oct. 3, 2021 – April 14, 2022

André Campra’s “Idoménée” spotlights Tassis Christoyannis, Samuel Boden, Chiara Skerath, Hélène Carpentier, Eva Zaïcik, Yoann Dubruque, Victor Sicard, Enguerrand de Hys, and Frédéric Caton. Emmanuelle Haïm conducts the production by Àlex Ollé /La Fura dels Baus.

Max Emanuel Cenčić, Anna Prohaska, and Liubov Medvedeva star in Christoph Willibald Gluck’s “Orfeo et Euridice.” Christophe Rousset conducts the production by Jürgen Flimm.

Jean-Philippe Rameau’s “Hippolyte und Aricie” will star Magdalena Kožená, Adriane Queiroz, Ema Nikolovska, Evelin Novak, Slávka Zámečníková, Liubov Medvedeva, Gyula Orendt, David Oštrek, Jan Martiník, Michael Smallwood, Magnus Dietrich, Arttu Kataja, Frederic Jost, and Reinoud Van Mechelen and Anna Prohaska in the title roles. Sir Simon Rattle conducts the production by Aletta Collins.

Performance Dates: Nov. 7 – 13, 2021

Peter Eötvös’ opera “Sleepless” showcases Victoria Randem, Linard Vrielink, Katharina Kammerloher, Hanna Schwarz, Sarah Defrise, Jan Martiník, Tómas Tómasson, Roman Trekel, Siyabonga Maqungo, and Arttu Kataja. Maxime Pascal and the composer conduct the production by Kornél Mundruczó.

Performance Dates: Nov. 28 – Dec. 16, 2021

Wagner’s “Lohengrin” will star Martin Gantner as Von Telramund, Ekaterina Gubanova and Iréne Theorin as Ortrud, Gábor Bretz and René Pape as Heinrich Der Vogler, and Elza van den Heever and Vida Miknevičiūtė as Elsa von Brabant. Andreas Schager and Roberto Alagna will share the title role with Thomas Guggeis and Matthias Pintscher conducting the production by Calixto Bieito.

Performance Dates: Nov. 30, 2021 – May 7, 2022

Mozart’s “Die Zauberflöte” will star Matthias Goerne and Grigory Shkarupa as Sarastro, Siyabonga Maqungo and Peter Sonn as Tamino, Evelin Novak and Elsa Dreisig as Pamina, and Caroline Wettergreen as Die Königin der Nacht. The cast also includes Gyula Orendt, Arttu Kataja, Liubov Medvedeva, Roman Trekel, David Oštrek, Anna Samuil, Ema Nikolovska, Marina Prudenskaya, Andrés Moreno García, and Žilvinas Miškinis. Giuseppe Mentuccia and Anna Milukova conduct the production by August Everding.

Performance Dates: Dec. 2 – 27, 2021

Elīna Garanča and Andreas Schager star in Damián Szifron’s production of Camille Saint-Saëns’ operatic masterwork “Samson et Dalila.” The cast also includes Michael Volle, Jongmin Park, Paul Gay, Magnus Dietrich, and Benjamin Chamandy. Daniel Barenboim and Thomas Guggeis conduct.

Puccini’s “La bohème” will spotlight Sonya Yoncheva as Mimì, Charles Castronovo as Rodolfo, and Elsa Dreisig as Musetta. The cast will be rounded out by  Adam Kutny, Carles Pachon, David Oštrek, Spencer Britten, and Olaf Bär. Domingo Hindoyan conducts the production by Lindy Hume.

Performance Dates: Dec. 18, 2021 – Jan. 2, 2022

Rossini’s “Il Barbiere di Siviglia” features Siyabonga Maqungo as Count Almaviva, and Tara Erraught as Rosina. The cast also includes Renato Girolami, Grigory Shkarupa, Adriane Queiroz, Jaka Mihelač, and Carles Pachon. Diego Matheuz conducts the production by Ruth Berghaus.

Performance Dates: Jan. 5 – 15, 2022

Evelin Novak, Ema Nikolovska, and Natalia Skrycka star in the title roles of Humperdinck’s “Hänsel und Gretel.” The cast will be rounded out by Roman Trekel, Arttu Kataja, Anna Samuil, Marina Prudenskaya, Stephan Rügamer, Clara Nadeshdin, and Liubov Medvedeva. Thomas Guggeis conducts the production by Achim Freyer.

Leoš Janáček’s “Im Nebel ein Licht” features Martina Gedeck, Meike Droste, Katharina Kammerloher, and Roman Trekel. Adrian Heger conducts the production by Jürgen Flimm.

Purcell’s “Dido & Aeneas” stars Marie-Claude Chappuis, Nikolay Borchev, Aphrodite Patoulidou, Luciana Mancini, Yannis François, Ziad Nehme, and Michael Smallwood. Christopher Moulds conducts the production by Sasha Waltz.

Performance Dates: Jan. 16 – 19, 2022

Richard Strauss’ “Ariadne auf Naxos” will spotlight Marina Prudenskaya as Der Komponist, Sarah Aristidou as Zerbinetta, Evelin Novak as Najade, Vincent Wolfsteiner as Bacchus, and Anna Samuil in the title role. The cast also includes Elisabeth Trissenaar, Arttu Kataja, Jaka Mihelač, Magnus Dietrich, Žilvinas Miškinis, Andrés Moreno García, Natalia Skrycka, Liubov Medvedeva, Spencer Britten, Carles Pachon, and David Oštrek. Antonello Manacorda conducts the production by Hans Neuenfels.

Anja Harteros and Saioa Hernández share the title role in Puccini’s “Tosca.” Fabio Sartori will perform Mario Cavaradossi, while Ambrogio Maestri will portray Scarpia. Andrés Orozco-Estrada and Julien Salemkour conduct the production by Alvis Hermanis.

Verdi’s “Rigoletto” stars Saimir Pirgu as Duca di Mantua, Erin Morley as Gilda, and Christopher Maltman in the title role. The cast also includes Grigory Shkarupa, Marina Prudenskaya, Ema Nikolovska, Adam Kutny, Carles Pachon, Spencer Britten, Benjamin Chamandy, and Clara Nadeshdin. Ivan Repušić conducts the production by Bartlett Sher.

Hanna Herfurtner stars in Lucia Ronchetti’s “Pinocchios Abenteuer.” Adrian Heger conducts the production by Swaantje Lena Kleff.

Leoš Janáček’s “The Makropulos Affair” spotlights Marlis Petersen, Nicky Spence, Peter Hoare, Natalia Skrycka, Bo Skovhus, Spencer Britten, Jan Martiník, Žilvinas Miškinis, Adriane Queiroz, Graham Clark, and Anna Kissjudit. Sir Simon Rattle conducts the production by Claus Guth.

Hera Hyesang Park, Bogdan Volkov, Adam Kutny, Erwin Schrott, and Adriane Queiroz star in Percy Adlon’s production of Donizetti’s “L’elisir d’amore.” Speranza Scappucci conducts.

Yuval Sharon’s production of “Die Zauberflöte” features René Pape and Grigory Shkarupa as Sarastro, Julian Prégardien as Tamino, Victoria Randem and Anna Prohaska as Pamina, and Aleksandra Olczyk as Die Königin der Nacht. The cast also includes Gyula Orendt, Liubov Medvedeva, Florian Hoffmann, Adriane Queiroz, Natalia Skrycka, Anna Kissjudit, Stephan Rügamer, Žilvinas Miškinis, Spencer Britten, and Frederic Jost. Kristiina Poska conducts.

Richard Strauss’ “Der Rosenkavalier” spotlights Camilla Nylund as Die Feldmarschallin, and Michèle Losier as Octavian. The cast will be rounded out by Christof Fischesser, Thomas Oliemans, Siobhan Stagg, Anna Samuil, Karl-Michael Ebner, Anna Kissjudit, Benjamin Chamandy, Florian Hoffmann, Spencer Britten, Žilvinas Miškinis, Magnus Dietrich, Piotr Buszewski, and Clara Nadeshdin. Simone Young conducts the production by André Heller.

Performance Dates: March 20 – April 3, 2022

Mozart’s “Don Giovanni” stars Slávka Zámečníková as Donna Anna, Elsa Dreisig as Donna Elvira, Riccardo Fassi as Leporello, and Michael Volle in the title role. The cast also includes Bogdan Volkov, Peter Rose, David Oštrek, and Serena Sáenz. Daniel Barenboim and Thomas Guggeis conduct the production by Vincent Huguet.

Performance Dates: April 2 – 20, 2022

The chamber opera “Die Arabische Nacht” showcases Carles Pachon, Ema Nikolovska, Liubov Medvedeva, Spencer Britten, Magnus Dietrich, Clara Nadeshdin, and Anna Kissjudit. Philipp Armbruster conducts the production by Marcin Łakomicki.

Verdi’s “La Traviata” stars Nino Machaidze as Violetta Valéry, Pene Pati as Alfredo Germont, and Alfredo Daza as Giorgio Germont. Massimo Zanetti conducts the production by Dieter Dorn.

Otto Nicolai’s “Die Lustigen Weiber von Windsor” spotlights René Pape, Roman Trekel, Wilhelm Schwinghammer, Linard Vrielink, Magnus Dietrich, David Oštrek, Evelin Novak, Michaela Schuster, and Anna Prohaska. Thomas Guggeis conducts the production by David Bösch.

Werckmeister Harmonien” features Annalisa Derossi, Mara Miribung, Daniele Pintaudi, Samuel Streiff, and Mathias Weibel who is also the conductor. Thom Luz is the director.

Asmik Grigorian sings the title role in Leoš Janáček’s “Jenůfa” alongside Violeta Urmana, Hanna Schwarz, Stephan Rügamer, Alexey Dolgov, Jan Martiník, David Oštrek, Natalia Skrycka, Evelin Novak, Ema Nikolovska, Adriane Queiroz, and Victoria Randem. Thomas Guggeis conducts the production by Damiano Michieletto.

Puccini’s “La Fanciulla del West” stars Anja Kampe as Minnie, Marcelo Álvarez as Dick Johnson, and Michael Volle as Jack Rance. Richard Strauss’ “Elektra” will spotlight Waltraud Meier as Klytämnestra, Vida Miknevičiūtė as Chrysothemis, and Ricarda Merbeth in the title role. The cast will be rounded out by Gerhard Siegel, René Pape, David Wakeham, Cheryl Studer, Natalia Skrycka, Florian Hoffmann, and Olaf Bär. Daniel Barenboim and Thomas Guggeis conduct the production by Patrice Chéreau.

Anna Netrebko and Elena Pankratova star in the title role of Puccini’s “Turandot.” Yusif Eyvazov sings Calaf, and Aida Garifullina and Olga Peretyatko portray Liu. The cast also includes Graham Clark, René Pape, Gyula Orendt, Siyabonga Maqungo, Andrés Moreno García, and David Oštrek. Zubin Mehta conducts the production by Philipp Stölzl.

Finally, Olga Peretyatko, Francesco Demuro, Gyula Orendt, and Paul Gay star in Wim Wenders’ production of Bizet’s “Les pêcheurs de perles.” Victorien Vanoosten conducts.
