The Opernhaus Zürich has announced its 2021-22 season. Here is the full slate.

Operas – Premieres

Richard Strauss‘ “Salome” will star Elena Stikhina, Kostas Smoriginas, Wolfgang Ablinger-Sperrhacke, Michaela Schuster, Mauro Peter, and Siena Licht Miller. Simone Young conducts the production by Andreas Homoki.

Performance dates: Sep. 12 – Oct. 17, 2021

Verdi‘s “Il Trovatore” will spotlight Quinn Kelsey, Marina Rebeka, Anita Rachvelishvili, Piotr Beczała, Robert Pomakov, Bożena Bujnicka, Omer Kobiljak, and Andrei Skliarenko. Gianandrea Noseda conducts the production by Adele Thomas.

Performance dates: Oct. 24 – Nov. 26, 2021

Leonard Evers’ “Die Odyssee” will feature Ruben Drole, Andrew Moore, Deniz Uzun, Siena Licht Miller, Irène Friedli, Liliana Nikiteanu, Andrew Owens, Nathan Haller, Ziyi Dai, Tatjana Schneider, Barnaby Rea, Alexander Fritze, Thomas Erlank, Alejandro del Angel, Valeriy Murga, Cheyne Davidson, Oleg Davydov, Philipp Mayer, Erica Petrocelli, and Chelsea Zurflüh. Eduardo Strausser and Ann-Katrin Stöcker conduct the production by Rainer Holzapfel.

Performance dates: Nov. 13, 2021 – Jan. 16, 2022

Donizetti‘s “Anna Bolena” will star Luca Pisaroni, Diana Damrau, Karine Deshayes, Stanislav Vorobyov, Alexey Neklyudov, Nadezhda Karyazina, and Nathan Haller. Enrique Mazzola conducts the production by David Alden.

Performance dates: Dec. 5, 2021 – Jan. 13, 2022

Johann Strauss” “Die Fledermaus” will feature Tobias Bonn, Christoph Marti, Franz Frickel, Max Gertsch, Ricardo Frenzel Baudisch, and Gabriela Ryffel. Kai Tietje conducts the production by Stefan Huber.

Performance dates: Dec. 11, 2021 – Jan. 16, 2022, Bernhard Theater

Ballet and music performances of Christian Spuck’s “Monteverdi” will spotlight Lauren Fagan, Louise Kemény, Siena Licht Miller, Aryeh Nussbaum Cohen, Edgaras Montvidas, Anthony Gregory, and Brent Michael Smith. Riccardo Minasi conducts.

Francis Poulenc’s “Dialogues des Carmélites” will showcase Nicolas Cavallier, Olga Kulchynska, Thomas Erlank, Evelyn Herlitzius, Inga Kalna, Alice Coote, Sandra Hamaoui, Liliana Nikiteanu, Martin Zysset, Freya Apffelstaedt, Savelii Andreev, Alexander Fritze, Valeriy Murga, Vladyslav Tlushch, and Yannick Debus. Tito Ceccherini conducts the production by Jetske Mijnssen.

Rossini‘s “L’italiana in Algeri” will spotlight Cecilia Bartoli, Nadezhda Karyazina, Ildar Abdrazakov, Lawrence Brownlee, Nicola Alaimo, Ilya Altukhov, Rebeca Olvera, and Siena Licht Miller. Gianluca Capuano conducts the production by Moshe Leiser and Patrice Caurier.

Pergolesi’s “L’Olimpiade” will feature Carlo Allemano, Joélle Harvey, Lauren Snouffer, Anna Bonitatibus, Vivica Genaux, Thomas Erlank, and Delphine Galou. Ottavio Dantone conducts the production by David Marton.

Performance dates: March 12 – 19, 2022

Stefan Wirth’s “Girl with a Pearl Earring” will star Lauren Snouffer, Thomas Hampson, Laura Aikin, Felicity Palmer, Yannick Debus, Irène Friedli, Iain Milne, Sarah Castle, and Lisa Tatin. Peter Rundel conducts the production by Ted Huffman.

Performance dates: April 3 – May 8, 2022

Wagner‘s “Das Rheingold” will get a new look with Gianandrea Noseda conducting a production by Andreas Homoki. The opera will star Tomasz Konieczny, Jordan Shanahan, Omer Kobiljak, Matthias Klink, Patricia Bardon, Kiandra Howarth, Anna Danik, Christopher Purves, Wolfgang Ablinger-Sperrhacke, David Soar, Oleg Davydov, Uliana Alexyuk, Niamh O’Sullivan, and Deniz Uzun. The opera will kick off the new “Der Ring des Nibelungen” cycle at the Opernhaus Zürich which will extend into the 2022-23 season.

Joseph Haydn’s “Il mondo della luna” will feature Vladyslav Tlushch, Chelsea Zurflüh, Ziyi Dai, Freya Apffelstaedt, Andrei Skliarenko, Savelii Andreev, and Luis Magallanes. Joseph Bastian conducts the production by Tomo Sugao.

Performance dates: May 5 – May 15, 2022, Theater Winterthur

Bellini‘s “Il Pirata” will star Konstantin Shushakov, Albina Shagimuratova, Javier Camarena, Andrew Owens, Stanislav Vorobyov, and Siena Licht Miller. Iván López-Reynoso conducts the production by Janko Kastelic.

Performance dates: June 1 – 10, 2022

Mozart‘s “Le Nozze di Figaro” will star Daniel Okulitch, Anita Hartig, Morgan Pearse, Louise Alder, Lea Desandre, Malin Hartelius, Yorck Felix Speer, Spencer Lang, Martin Zysset, Ziyi Dai, and Ruben Drole. Stefano Montanari conducts the production by Jan Philipp Gloger.

Wolfgang Mitterer’s “Das tapfere Schneiderlein” features Christian Sturm, Ziyi Dai, Erica Petrocelli, Xiaomeng Zhang, Yannick Debus, Ruben Drole, Vladyslav Tlushch, and Hansueli Trüb. Ann-Katrin Stöcker and Thomas Barthel conduct the production by Kai Anne Schuhmacher.

Monteverdi’s “L’incoronazione di Poppea” will spotlight Jake Arditti, Sandra Hamaoui, Hamida Kristoffersen, David Hansen, Emily d´Angelo, Julie Fuchs, Delphine Galou, Deanna Breiwick, Manuel Nuñez Camelino, Emiliano Gonzalez Toro, Miklos Sebestyén, Bożena Bujnicka, Thomas Erlank, Andrew Moore, and Andrei Skliarenko. Mascagni and Leoncavallo‘s double bill “Cavalleria Rusticana” and “Pagliacci” will star Elīna Garanča, Oksana Volkova, Deniz Uzun, Marcelo Álvarez, Robert Watson, George Petean, Ekaterina Bakanova, Andrew Owens, Irène Friedli, and Xiaomeng Zhang. Paolo Carignani conducts the production by Grischa Asagaroff.

Verdi’s operatic masterpiece “Macbeth” will star George Petean, Vitalij Kowaljow, Anna Netrebko, Veronika Dzhioeva, Erica Petrocelli, Benjamin Bernheim, Omer Kobiljak, Alejandro del Angel, Alexander Fritze, and Andrew Moore. Nicola Luisotti conducts the production by Barrie Kosky.

Performance dates: March 9 – April 1, 2022

Verdi’s “Rigoletto” will showcase Liparit Avetisyan, Quinn Kelsey, Sandra Hamaoui, Brent Michael Smith, Nadezhda Karyazina, Siena Licht Miller, Valeriy Murga, Xiaomeng Zhang, Alexander Fritze, Bożena Bujnicka, and Ilya Altukhov. Karel Mark Chichon conducts the production by Tatjana Gürbaca.

Richard Strauss‘ “Arabella” features Anja Harteros, Pavol Breslik, Josef Wagner, Michael Hauenstein, Judith Schmid, Anett Fritsch, Nathan Haller, Yannick Debus, Brent Michael Smith, Aleksandra Kubas-Kruk, Irène Friedli, Bogusław Bidziński, Mentor Bajrami, and Nick Lulgjuraj. Markus Poschner conducts the production by Robert Carsen.

Performance dates: May 8 – 20, 2022

Donizetti’s “Lucia di Lammermoor” stars Massimo Cavalletti, Lisette Oropesa, Benjamin Bernheim, Andrew Owens, Vitalij Kowaljow, Roswitha Christina Müller, and Iain Milne. Andrea Sanguineti conducts the production by Tatjana Gürbaca.

Performance dates: May 22 – June 12, 2022

Wagner’s operatic masterwork “Tristan und Isolde” will star Camilla Nylund, Michael Weinius, Michelle Breedt, Franz Josef Selig, Martin Gantner, Oliver Widmer, Andrei Skliarenko, Xiaomeng Zhang, and Thomas Erlank. Gianandrea Noseda conducts the production by Claus Guth.

Performance dates: June 26 – July 9, 2022

Finally, Verdi’s “Falstaff” spotlights Irina Lungu, Sir Bryn Terfel, Sandra Hamaoui, Marianna Pizzolato, Deniz Uzun, Konstantin Shushakov, Cyrille Dubois, Iain Milne, Nathan Haller, and Brent Michael Smith. Gianandrea Noseda conducts the production by Sven-Eric Bechtolf.

Performance dates: July 3 – 10, 2022

Concerts

Riccardo Minasi conducts Lina Dambrauskaité, Chelsea Zurflüh, Deniz Uzun, Andrei Skliarenko, and Andrew Moore in a concert dedicated to Bach and Händel.

Performance date: Dec. 19, 2021

Neujahrskonzert will see the famed tenor Juan Diego Flórez performing works by Johann Strauss, Brahms, and Massenet. Gianandrea Noseda conducts.

Ying Fang will perform music by Bach in a concert. Riccardo Minasi conducts.
