Angela Meade, Juliana Grigoryan, Piero Pretti to Headline Atlanta Opera’s ‘Turandot’

The Atlanta Opera is set to present a new production of Puccini’s “Turandot.”

Directed by General and Artistic Director Tomer Zvulun, the opera will be conducted by Principal Conductor Iván López Reynoso.

The cast will include Angela Meade in the title role alongside tenor Piero Pretti as Calaf, and Juliana Grigoryan as Liù.

The cast will be rounded out by Peixen Chen, Eleomar Cuello, Wayd Odle, Terrence Chin-Loy, Kyle White, and Steven Cole.

In a statement Zvulun said, “‘Turandot’ remains one of the most beloved operas of all time, yet its ending has long carried a sense of discord—an unresolved tension left by Puccini’s untimely death. This new production seeks to address two key challenges: reimagining the story within a more timeless, universal setting inspired by the game of chess, and reconstructing the final act in a way that preserves Puccini’s powerful music while bringing greater dramatic and emotional cohesion to the work.”

“Turandot” will open on April 25 and will run through May 3. The May 1 performance will be live streamed by The Atlanta Opera Film Studio.
