Angela Meade Cancels ‘Semiramide’ At The Bilbao Opera

Angela Meade has canceled her performances of “Semiramide” at the Bilbao Opera.

The company announced that due to indisposition Meade would no longer be performing the role which she most recently performed at the Metropolitan Opera. As a result, the Italian soprano Silvia Dalla Benetta will replace her.

Dalla Benetta recently performed the title role of “Norma” in Ferrara and Liege, Verdi’s Requiem in Sophia, “Così fan tutte” in Madrid, “Jérusalem” in Parma, and “Il Corsaro” in Modena, among others.

Dalla Benetta joins a cast that includes Daniela Barcellona as Arsace, Simón Orfila as Assur, and José Luis Sola in the role of Idreno. Alessandro Vitiello conducts Rossini’s score in a production by Luca Ronconi.

The production opens on Feb. 16 and runs through the 25.
