Angela Meade, Anne Sophie Duprels Headline Wexford Festival Opera 2021 Season

Wexford Festival Opera has announced that it will present its 70th anniversary festival this October.

The showcase, which will take place between Oct. 19-31, will feature live audiences at a reduced capacity. The company will also present performances online for those unable to attend the live showcases.

Operas Productions

The company will showcase several live opera productions, starting with Catalina’s “Edmea,” which will star Anne Sophie Duprels, Ivan Shcherbatykh, John Molloy, Leon Kim, and Conor Prendiville. Francesco Cillufo conducts a production directed by Julia Burbach.

Performance Dates: Oct. 19 – 31, 2021

Audiences will get a chance to check out a semi-staged version of Ambroise Thomas’ “Le Songe d’une nuit d’été” directed by Walter Le Moli and conducted by Guillaume Tourniaire. The cast will star Hasmik Torosyan, Valentina Mastrangelo, Sébastien Guèze, Tommaso Barea, Vasyl Solodkyy, Rory Dunne, and Kathleen Norchi.

Performance Dates: Oct. 20 – 30, 2021

Finally, the company will offer a Concert performance of Goldmark’s “Ein Wintermärchen” starring Sophie Gordeladze, Ava Dodd, Simon Thorpe, Daniel Szeili, Rory Musgrave, Lancelot Nomura, and Niamh O’Sullivan.

Performance Dates: Oct. 21 – 24, 2021

There will also be a fully staged production of Bellini’s “I Capuleti e I Montecchi” featuring members of the Wexford Factory under the musical direction of Giuseppe Montesano.

Concerts 

There will be a gala concert featuring members of the Festival company.

There will also be a final Factory Concert showcasing the rising stars of the Wexford Festival Opera.

Performance Dates: Oct. 26, 2021

Soprano Angela Meade will be featured in a special concert.

Performance Dates: Oct. 27, 2021

The company is also set to present 10 lunchtime recitals, 24 pop-up events, and a new opera by Andrew Synnott entitled “The 47th Saturday.”
