Opéra National de Paris has announced its 2021-22 season. Here is the full slate.

Operas

The Seven Deaths of Maria Callas” by Marina Abramovic will open the season. The showcase stars Nadezhda Karyazina, Selene Zanetti, Leah Hawkins, Adela Zaharia, Lauren Fagan, Gabriella Reyes, and Hera Hyesang Park. Yoel Gamzou conducts.

Performance dates: Sep. 1 – 4, 2021

Gluck‘s “Iphigénie en Tauride” spotlights Nicole Chevalier, Jacques Imbrailo, Julien Behr, Jean‑François Lapointe, Marianne Croux, Jeanne Ireland, and Christophe Gay. Thomas Hengelbrock and Iñaki Encina Oyón conduct the production by Krzysztof Warlikowski.

Enescu’s operatic masterwork “Œdipefeatures Christopher Maltman, Sir John Tomlinson, Brian Mulligan, Vincent Ordonneau, Laurent Naouri, Nicolas Cavallier, Adrian Timpau, Graham Clark, Ekaterina Gubanova,
Clémentine Margaine, Anna-Sophie Neher, Anne-Sofie Von Otter, and Daniela Entcheva. Ingo Metzmacher conducts the production by Wajdi Mouawad.

Performance dates: Sep. 20 – Oct. 14, 2021

Donizetti‘s “L’Elisir d’amore” will showcase Sydney Mancasola, Matthew Polenzani, Pene Pati, Simone Del Savio, Carlo Lepore, Ambrogio Maestri, and Lucrezia Drei. Giampaolo Bisanti and Leonardo Sini conduct the production by Laurent Pelly.

Performance dates: Sep. 28 – Nov. 9, 2021

Hannu Lintu will conduct Willy Decker’s production of Wagner‘s “Der Fliegende Holländer.” The opera will star Tomasz Konieczny, Günther Groissböck, Ricarda Merbeth, Agnes Zwierko, Michael Weinius, and Thomas Atkins.

Performance dates: Oct. 7 – Nov. 6, 2021

Verdi‘s “Rigoletto” spotlights Ludovic Tézier and Željko Lučić in the title role; Nadine Sierra and Irina Lungu as Gilda; and Dmitry Korchak and Joseph Calleja as Duca di Mantua. The cast is rounded out with Goderdzi Janelidze, Justina Gringyté, Bogdan Talos, Cassandre Berthon, Jean-Luc Ballestra, Maciej Kwaśnikowski, Izabella Wnorowska-Pluchart, Lise Nougier, Marine Chagnon, and Pierpaolo Palloni. Dan Ettinger and Giacomo Sagripanti conduct the production by Claus Guth.

Performance dates: Oct. 23 – Nov. 24, 2021

Voix d’automne” features music by Alessandro Scarlatti, Franz Schubert, Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy, Robert Schumann, and Gustav Mahler. The performance showcases Marine Chagnon, Ilanah Lobel-Torres, Fernando Escalona, Kiup Lee, Aaron Pendleton, Kseniia Proshina, Tobias Westman, Yiorgo Ioannou, Alejandro Baliñas Vieites, Felix Ramos, and Carlos Sanchis Aguirre.

Händel‘s “Alcina” features Jeanine de Bique, Gaëlle Arquez, Sabine Devieilhe, Elsa Benoit, Roxana Constantinescu, Rupert Charlesworth, and Nicolas Courjal. Thomas Hengelbrock and Iñaki Encina Oyón conduct the production by Robert Carsen.

Performance dates: Nov. 25 – Dec. 30, 2021

Leonardo García Alarcón conducts the Luigi de Angelis’ production of Joseph Haydn’s “L’Isola disabitata.” The opera showcases Kseniia Proshina, Andrea Cueva Molnar, Ilanah Lobel-Torres, Lise Nougier, Kiup Lee, Tobias Westman, Alexander Ivanov, and Yiorgo Ioannou.

Performance dates: Nov. 27 – Dec. 3, 2021, Grand Théâtre de Dijon

Puccini‘s “Turandot” will spotlight Gwyn Hughes Jones as Calaf and Elena Pankratova in the title role. The cast also includes Vanessa Vasquez, Vitalij Kowaljow, Carlo Bosi, Adrian Timpau, Jinxu Xiahou, Matthew Newlin, and Sava Vemić. Gustavo Dudamel conducts the production by Robert Wilson.

Mozart‘s timeless opera “Le Nozze di Figaro” stars Peter Mattei as Count Almaviva; Maria Bengtsson and Miah Persson as Countess Almaviva; Ying Fan as Susanna; and Ildebrando D’Arcangelo in the title role. The cast will be rounded out by Lea Desandre, Angelika Kirchschlager, James Creswell, Michael Colvin, Christophe Mortagne, Kseniia Proshina, Marc Labonnette, Andrea Cueva Molnar, and Ilanah Lobel-Torres. Gustavo Dudamel conducts the production by Netia Jones.

Mússorgsky’s “Khovanshchina,” in the famed orchestration by Dmitry Shostakovich, will star Dimitry Ivashchenko, Sergei Skorokhodov, John Daszak, Evgeny Nikitin, Dmitry Belosseslkiy, Anita Rachvelishvili, Carole Wilson, Gerhard Siegel, Olga Busuoic, Wojtek Smilek, Vasily Efimov, Tomasz Kumiega, Gleb Peryazev, Alexander Milev, and Fernando Velasquez. Hartmut Haenchen conducts the production by Andrei Șerban.

Mozart’s “Don Giovanni” spotlights Christian Van Horn, Alexander Tsymbalyuk, Adela Zaharia, Pavel Petrov, Nicole Car, Krzysztof Bączyk, Mikhail Timoshenko, and Anna El-Khashem. Bertrand de Billy conducts the production by Ivo Van Hove.

Performance dates: Feb. 1 – March 11, 2022

James Gaffigan conducts the Vincent Huguet’s production of Massenet’s “Manon.” The opera stars Joshua Guerrero as Le Chevalier des Grieux, Jean Teitgen as Le Comte des Grieux, and Ailyn Pérez in the title role. The cast also includes Rodolphe Briand, Marc Labonnette, Andrea Cueva Molnar, Andrzej Filończyk, Ilanah Lobel-Torres, Jeanne Ireland, Philippe Rouillon, Laurent Laberdesque, and Julien Joguet.

Monteverdi’s “L’incoronazione di Poppea” will be conducted by Vincent Dumestre. Alain Françon is the director.

Berg’s “Wozzeck” will feature Johan Reuter, John Daszak, Tansel Akzeybek, Gerhard Siegel, Falk Struckmann, Mikhail Timoshenko, Tobias Westman, Heinz Göhrig, Eva‑Maria Westbroek, Marie-Andrée Bouchard-Lesieur, and Vincent Morell. Susanna Mälkki conducts the production by William Kentridge.

A Quiet Place” by Leonard Bernstein will star Patricia Petibon, Frédéric Antoun, Gordon Bintner, and Russell Braun. Kent Nagano conducts the production by Krzysztof Warlikowski.

Massenet‘s “Cendrillon” spotlights Tara Erraught, Daniela Barcellona, Anna Stephany, Kathleen Kim, Charlotte Bonnet, Marion Lebègue, Lionel Lhote, Philippe Rouillon, Cyrille Lovighi, Olivier Ayault, and Vadim Artamonov. Carlo Rizzi conducts the production by Mariame Clément.

Performance dates: March 23 – April 28, 2022

György Kurtag’s “Fin de Partie” will be headlined by Frode Olsen, Leigh Melrose, Hilary Summers, and Leonardo Cortellazzi. Markus Stenz conducts the production by Pierre Audi.

Strauss’ “Elektra” stars Christine Goerke in the title role, Elza van den Heever as Chrysothemis, and Waltraud Meier as Klytämnestra. The cast also includes Gerhard Siegel and Tómas Tomasson. Semyon Bychkov and Case Scaglione conduct the production by Robert Carsen.

Wagner’s “Parsifal” spotlights Iain Paterson as Amfortas, Reinhard Hagen as Titurel, Kwangchul Youn as Gurnemanz, Falk Struckmann as Klingsor, Marina Prudenskaya as Kundry, and Simon O’Neill in the title role. The cast is rounded with Neal Cooper, William Thomas, Tamara Banjesevic, Marie-Andrée Bouchard-Lesieur, Tobias Westman, Maciej Kwaśnikowski, Claudia Huckle, Kseniia Proshina, Andrea Cueva Molnar, and Ramya Roy. Simone Young conducts the production by Richard Jones.

Rossini‘s “Il Barbiere di Siviglia” stars René Barbera, Renato Girolami, Marianne Crebassa, Andrzej Filończyk, Alex Esposito, Katherine Broderick, and Christian Rodrigue Moungoungou. Roberto Abbado conducts the production by Damiano Michieletto.

Jean-Philippe Rameau’s “Platée” features Mathias Vidal, Nahuel di Pierro, Marc Mauillon, Julie Fuchs, Amina Edris, Tamara Bounazou, Lawrence Brownlee, Jean Teitgen, Reinoud Van Mechelen, and Adriana Bignani-Lesca. Marc Minkowski conducts the production by Laurent Pelly.

Performance dates: June 17 – July 12, 2022

Finally, Gounod’s “Faust” stars Benjamin Bernheim, Christian Van Horn, Florian Sempey, Guilhem Worms, Angel Blue, Emily D’Angelo, and Sylvie Brunet-Grupposo. Thomas Hengelbrock conducts the production by Tobias Kratzer.

Concerts & Recitals

The Inaugural Concert will feature duets and arias by Bizet, Wagner, Verdi, Britten, and Richard Strauss. Gustavo Dudamel conducts the Orchestra, Chorus, Academy’s artists, and guest performers.

Young students of the Academy, including Yiorgo Ioannou, Alexander Ivanov, Niall Anderson, Aaron Pendleton, Ilanah Lobel-Torres, Kseniia Proshina, Martina Russomanno, Marine Chagnon, Lise Nougier, Fernando Escalona, and Kiup Lee, will give a concert.
