Andrea Zomorodian to Headline La Jolla Symphony & Chorus’ ‘Nexus’

By Brian Tannenbaum

La Jolla Symphony & Chorus will be presenting its newest concert “Nexus,” featuring composer Nina Shekar and soprano Andrea Zomorodian the weekend of March 16th and 17th.

Shekar’s composition “Lumina” was written in 2020 and is inspired, in part, by Hindustani traditional music, which typically engenders improvisation from its performers. “Nexus” will mix Shekar’s modern piece with three classic French works from centuries past: Claude Debussy’s “La Mer”, Lili Boulanger’s “D’un matin de printemps,” and finally Francis Poulence’s “Gloria,” which Zomorodian, accompanied by the Chorus will sing.

“I really love performing music like Poulenc’s “Gloria” with an orchestra because I get to sing these really sumptuous linesit’s gorgeous, expansive solo writing,” Zomorodian remarked in an official press statement. “I can’t wait to share that with the audience.”

“Nexus” will be performed on Saturday, March 16th at 7:00 p.m. and on Sunday, March 17th at 2:00 p.m. at The University of California San Diego’s Mandeville Auditorium. Tickets run from $32-$41. $19 student tickets are available.
