
‘An Afternoon at the Opera: The Radio Days’ Opens SAS Performing Arts Company’s 2025 Season
By Afton MarkaySAS Performing Arts Company kicks off its 5th anniversary season with “An Afternoon at the Opera: The Radio Days,” on Feb. 16.
The program celebrates legendary broadcasts like “The Saturday Afternoon Metropolitan,” “Opera Texaco Broadcasts,” “The Bell Telephone Hour,” and “The Menotti Radio Hour.”
Soprano Cassandra Douglas and baritone Jonathan R. Green open the double bill with arias and duets by Rossini, Donizetti, and Porter in “The Bell Telephone Hour.” The second half features Gian Carlo Menotti’s radio opera, “The Old Maid and the Thief.” Mezzo-soprano Lara Tillotson sings Miss Todd and soprano Clara Luz Iranzo performs the role of Laetitia. They are joined by soprano Monica Camafreita, Chris Drago Fistonich, Paul Fraccalvieri, and Deborah Surdi. Jon Audric Nelson is the collaborative pianist for the first half, and Eric Malson plays for the second. Stephen Scovasso directs.
Christ and St. Stephen’s Church in NYC hosts the upcoming performance.
