Amidst Financial Crisis, Metropolitan Opera Announces First Official Champagne Partner in Its History
By David SalazarMaison Perrier-Jouët has been named the Official Champagne of the Metropolitan Opera.
The partnership, which was established under a five-year agreement, is the first such partnership of its kind for the Met Opera. The aim of the collaboration will bring new hospitality offerings to the opera house in partnership with Patina Restaurant Group. These include a redesigned Orchestra Bar featuring Perrier-Jouët’s signature anemone motif, pre-ordered champagne service at multiple bars throughout the venue, and private Parterre Box service featuring the house’s Belle Époque range. The partnership also extends to the Met’s Young Associates program for patrons aged 21 to 45, offering pre-performance receptions, backstage tours and networking opportunities.
“We are delighted to welcome Perrier-Jouët as the Official Champagne of the Metropolitan Opera,” said Gilly Brierley, Assistant General Manager of Marketing and Communications at the Met, per an official press release. “This partnership enhances the magic of an evening at the Met, offering audiences an elevated way to celebrate the performing arts.”
Perrier-Jouët was founded in 1811 and is part of the Pernod Ricard portfolio.
Over the past year, the Met Opera’s management has opened up the organization to unique collaborations by its own standards, including an upcoming performance of a Sting musical as well as a previous concert featuring Andrea Bocelli. There was also the announcement of a partnership with Saudi Arabia that seems to have been put on hold. While unconfirmed, the timing suggests desperation on the part of Met Opera management as it manages a financial crisis that has featured the organization dipping into its endowment.
