Alter Ego Chamber Opera will present “Of Fiercer Origins: An Operatic Double Bill” as part of the Philadelphia Fringe Festival.

The double bill which includes “A Pregnant Pause” and two world premieres based on poems by Adrienne Rich, will take place on Sept. 27, 28, and 29, 2024.

“A Pregnant Pause” is composed by Garth Baxter with a libretto by Alize Francheska Rozsnyai and has a duration of 25 hours. Per an official press release, “it centers around reproductive decisions and the conversation surrounding giving birth, the practicality and feasibility of bearing children in our current world and economy, and gives voice to women’s suffering internationally as we are brought into the mind of protagonist Serena as she awaits the results of a pregnancy test.”

Rich’s “Heroines” and “What is Possible” feature music by Tori Lavan.

Performers include sopranos Katherine Boyce and Marcelle McGuirk as well as pianist Hannah Han.
