Alexis Walker Named Portland Opera’s Second Ensemble Leaders Fellow

By David Salazar

Portland Opera has announced that Alexis Walker is the second Ensemble Leaders Fellow.

Walker is a member of Pacific University’s Chamber Singers. She has also performed with the American Choral Directors Association and the Oregon Music Educators Association. She has also worked in theater as a Stage Manager and Assistant Producer and is a vocal instructor and Voice Program Director at Bach to Rock in Hillsboro, Oregon.

“The experience so far has been so eye opening!” Walker said in an official press statement. “As a performer myself, I didn’t fully understand all the work it takes to run an arts organization.  In just the few months I have been here, my understanding has deepened as I continue the fellowship program. I am grateful for the people I have met, and what I am being taught every time I step into the building.”

The Fellowship supports career advancement opportunities for artists who have been “historically underrepresented in the world of opera, in both administrative and artistic roles.”

The company’s previous Ensemble Leaders Fellow was Jasmine Johnson; she was selected in 2021-22 and returned to the company as a staff member since 2022-23.
