By Francisco Salazar

Alexander Prior has announced that he is leaving his post at Theater Erfurt.

In a statement, the company said, “Alexander Prior has been working at the Theater Erfurt since the 2022-23 season. As chief conductor, he took on the responsibility and at the same time the challenge of maintaining and continuing the excellence of the orchestra. Today Alexander Prior signed a termination agreement at his own request. For personal reasons, he can no longer guarantee that the upcoming productions will run smoothly in the next few months. With his resignation, Alexander Prior would like to clear the way for colleagues to continue to meet the expectations of the audience he greatly values and loves.”

Prior will leave on April 1, 2024.

The British composer and conductor of Russian origin has recently served as chief conductor of the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra from 2017 to 2022. He has conducted at the Bayerische Staatsoper, the Leipzig Opera, the Royal Danish Opera, the Tiroler Festspiele in Erl, the Vancouver Opera, and Frankfurt Opera.
