Olga Peretyatko, Nina Stemme, Alessandro Corbelli & Kate Aldrich Lead New CD/DVD Releases

Welcome back for this week’s look at the latest CD and DVD releases in the opera world.

This week audiences will get a taste of rare works by French and Italian composers. Here is a look at this week’s new releases.

Kozłowski Requiem

The Singapore Symphony Orchestra and its Music Director Hans Graf present a recording of Józef Kozłowski’s Requiem, together with the Singapore Symphony Chorus and the Singapore Symphony Youth Choir. The recording also features soloists Olga Peretyatko (soprano), Olesya Petrova (mezzo-soprano), Boris Stepanov (tenor) and Christoph Seidl (bass).

The recording uses a new edition created by conductor Graf himself and is released by Pentatone.

Franz Schmidt: The Book with Seven Seals 

Somm Recordings releases the Symphony which features the Vienna Symphony Orchestra and conductor Rudolf Moralt. Soloists include Julius Patzak, Otto Wiener, Hanny Steffek, Hertha Töpper, Erich Majkut, and Frederick Guthrie. The Munich Philharmonic Orchestra is also featured with Anton Lippe conductor.

Awaiting Golden Light 

Voices of Concinnity finds connection through universal experiences on “AWAITING GOLDEN LIGHT.” Based in Connecticut, the inclusive professional vocal ensemble melded each singer’s unique vocal qualities into the richness of choral sound for this project. Navona Records releases.

La Voix Humaine 

Poulenc’s “La Voix Humaine” and “Fiancalles pour rire” will be presented on the Voces8 records label. Paula Sides and Sergey Rubin lead the recording.

Gaetano Donizetti: L’aio nell’imbarazzo

Dynamic will release Donizetti’s rarely performed opera recorded at the Teatro Donizetti, Bergamo, Italy on November 17, 20 and 26, 2022. The opera stars Alessandro Corbelli, Alex Esposito, and pupils of the Bottega Donizetti; Francesco Lucii, Marilena Ruta, Lorenzo Martelli, Caterina Dellaere, and Lorenzo Liberali. The Orchestra and Coro Donizetti Opera is conducted by Vincenzo Milletarì. Francesco Micheli directs the production.

Richard Wagner: Siegfried

Naxos releases “Siegfried” from the Deutsche Oper Berlin filmed on November 12 and 19, 2021. The production stars Clay Hilley, Ya-Chung Huang, Iain Paterson, Jordan Shanahan, and Nina Stemme. Sir Donald Runnicles conducts Stefan Herheim’s production.

Camille Saint-Saëns: Déjanire

Kate AldrichJulien Dran, Anaïs Constans, and Jérôme Boutillier lead Saint-Saëns’s rarely performed opera with the Orchestre Philharmonique de Monte-Carlo and Choeur de l’opéra de Monte-Carlo. Kazuki Yamada conducts the new recording.
