The Bayerische Staatsoper has announced that the Italian bass-baritone Alex Esposito has been awarded the honorary title of the Kammersänger of the state of Bavaria.

Esposito is regarded as one of the most talented opera singers of his generation. He has appeared on the leading stages, including Teatro alla Scala, Wiener Staatsoper, Royal Opera House Covent Garden, Opéra National de Paris, and Deutsche Oper Berlin, among others.

Esposito debuted at the Bayerische Staatsoper in 2009, and has since appeared with the company in such operas as Rossini’s “La Cenerentola,” Mozart’s ” Die Zauberflöte” and “Don Giovanni,” Offenbach’s “Les Contes d’Hoffmann,” and Donizetti’s “L’elisir d’amore,” among others.

Esposito will officially receive the Honorary Award of the Kammersänger of the state of Bavaria after the performance of Mozart’s “Le Nozze di Figaro” on Sep. 28; he will be performing the title role.

The title of the Kammersänger of Bavaria was established by the Government of Bavaria in 1955.  The title has been awarded upon the recommendation of the Bayerische Staatsoper for the important artistic achievements in the last five years. Over 130 singers have been awarded this prestigious title so far, including Birgit Nilsson, Plácido Domingo, Lucia Popp, Edita Gruberova, Peter Seiffert, Waltraud Meier, Anja Harteros, Diana Damrau, Jonas Kaufmann, Wolfgang Koch, Christian Gerhaher, and Anja Kampe, among others.
