Albert Boadella’s ‘Diva’ to World Premiere

On Jan. 7 the Palacio Valdés de Aviles, Spain is set to premiere “Diva.”

The new show, by Albert Boadella, tells the story of Maria Callas and her relationship with Onasis. The show will feature soprano María Rey-Joly and tenor Antoni Comas as Callas and Onassis. Manuel Coves will conduct the work, which will also be performed between Jan. 14 and 24 at the Teatros del Canal de Madrid.

The work will showcase Callas’s final years in Paris and will delve into her heartbreak regarding her relationship with Aristoteles Onassis. “Diva” is the latest work by Boadella following his works “¿Y si nos enamoramos de Scarpia?.” Boadella is a recognized Spanish actor and playwright who has received numerous accolades including the 20th Pepe Isbert National Theater Award.

The work will also see Bernat Jansa, Dolors Caminal, Pedro Lastra, Martina Cabanas, and Silvia Brossa in technical positions.
